Today we're talking about breakfasts for your baby. Making balanced meals for a 6 month old can be fairly simple and straight forward once you get the hang of it. Until that time, though, it can seem very overwhelming! 6 month old baby food doesn't have to be daunting. I'm here to help you get past being unsure of what to serve. Here are a few pointers for you to make sure feeding is as seamless as possible.

The Basics

First, let's make sure you're up to speed on how to build your baby's meal. Start with my first foods fridge printout. Next, take a look at my post on how to build your baby's plate, with lunches as an example. I'll wait here for you until you're done...

Now that you've refreshed your memory on how we're building our plates, let's talk about breakfasts.

Spoiler alert! There's absolutely nothing different from lunch when it comes down to it.

You could technically serve the exact same foods and your baby wouldn't know the difference. They don't know that oatmeal is usually eaten for breakfast. So there is absolutely nothing wrong with serving oatmeal at any time of the day! Or peas and cucumbers for breakfast. Let go of any preconceived notions you may have about what foods fit at a certain time of the day, and rely on making sure that your baby's plate is balanced.

Some Ideas Using Traditional Breakfast Foods

I love to give my daughter yogurt and oatmeal for breakfasts. They may be messy, but you can tell how much she loves practicing using a spoon. That's worth it to me. Other great ideas are defrosted frozen berries, eggy pancakes, cottage cheese, bananas, and any kind of nut butter toast. Check out the video above for how to make these appropriate for a baby, as well as some other ideas.

Again, don't let these ideas restrict you. I definitely give my daughter things you would think of as dinner foods for breakfast. There's no reason not to! It can be hard to think of vegetables that are considered breakfast items, and I like to switch up her food to expose her to as many flavors as possible.

If you want some more ideas for breakfasts, or any meal, head over to Instagram where I show real world ideas of what I feed my daughter.

Sharing ideas amongst our community is a great way to expand our repertoire and our baby's palette. So let us know in the comments here or on Facebook and Instagram what your favorite breakfast ideas are for your baby! Even if you think they're plain or boring, someone else might not.

Last Thoughts

Breakfast is a good time to introduce some more traditional breakfast items like toast, yogurt, and oatmeal. Don't let this keep you from introducing other foods that might be considered dinner or lunch foods though. Your baby doesn't know one way or the other! Focus on building a balanced plate and you'll be well on your way.
